Research on the application of heavy calcium carbonate in airtight layer rubber

Now, the tire’s airtight rubber mainly uses light calcium carbonate to bulk. The raw material of heavy calcium carbonate is widely available and cheaper. Also, technology has made heavy calcium carbonate finer.

Recently, researchers have studied using heavy calcium carbonate in rubber. For example, changing the surface of calcium carbonate affects rubber composites. It affects their performance. Also, heavy calcium carbonate and N550 strengthen chloroprene rubber when added. The rubber used 800 mesh, 2800 mesh, and 4000 mesh heavy calcium carbonate. It was compared with light calcium carbonate. The results showed that:

The rubber filled with heavy calcium carbonate has higher tensile stress and lower Mooney viscosity. This is compared to the rubber filled with light calcium carbonate. This improves processing. Also, the scorch time is slightly shorter. But, it still meets the production requirements.

As the mesh size of heavy calcium carbonate increases, the Mooney viscosity will rise. So will the scorch time and tensile strength. So will the tear and break strength of the rubber compound. This rise will improve processing safety and mechanical properties. However, the aging coefficient may be slightly smaller. This would reduce aging resistance.

Rubber filled with heavy calcium carbonate is smoother. It is also more resistant to aging and air. They are better than those of light calcium carbonate filled rubber. They are like those of rubber compounds filled with light calcium carbonate. They have the same mechanical and flexural properties and hysteresis loss. But, adding heavy calcium carbonate to airtight rubber layers can still greatly improve them. These advantages of heavy calcium carbonate make it widely used. It is used in airtight layer rubber compounds. Airtight rubber compounds are used mainly in buildings and aerospace. They stop gas, water vapor, or liquid leaks. Its quality directly affects the safety performance of the project. So, heavy calcium carbonate is a high-quality inorganic filler. It can improve the performance of airtight rubber. It also cuts costs and helps related industries.
